I am a qualified person-centred integrative counsellor (FDSc MBACP).
Integrative counselling means using different counselling theories, i.e. Transactional Analysis, Parts work, etc, according to what might be most helpful to you. Person-centred means you choose what you want to talk about.
I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and adhere to their ethical framework.
I work with teenagers and adults and am experienced with diversity, including cultural, ethnic, sexual.
I have worked as a staff counsellor in the NHS and I volunteer with Cruse Bereavement.
I offer a free 20 minute phone call or zoom for you to see if I seem the 'right fit' for you.
I offer in person counselling (in Yatton, either in house or walking) as well as online or telephone, and can do a mix of these to suit your circumstances.
Our work together is completely confidential.
I attend regular supervision according to BACP guidelines.
Counselling affords you the time and space to contemplate what (or who) you are struggling with in life. I offer a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space for you to speak about anything you want, with an openness to understand how life is for you right now, and how you want it to progress.
I will support you in exploring how you feel about your own life, as well as how you relate to others, and they to you, by helping you unravel key issues and events that have led to where you are today, whether that be historical or present trauma, lack of self esteem, generalised anxiety, or any other issue that is causing you disharmony. You may have forgotten past experiences, but with exploration it may become clear how you have developed a mindset that is not serving you well. This can become the springboard to gaining new and helpful perspectives.
I work in a person-centred way, meaning you choose what you want to focus on and I will support you in threading together the most effective way for you to progress. I integrate different therapy styles, with the aim of finding what will support you in finding new meaning and advancing from your own history into a life you choose, sometimes with new boundaries in place that lead to you gaining more confidence in yourself.
I may suggest external resources that I feel could be helpful for you, such as books and podcasts, techniques and strategies, to support you in building resilience for your ongoing wellbeing.
I have recently introduced 'walking therapy' as well as in-person or online, and many clients find this beneficial. I am happy to do a mix, to suit different circumstances, and also depending on the weather!
I have specialist training in bereavement and have a keen interest in existentialism - exploring the very meaning of life itself.
I am experienced in working with diversity, whether it be cultural, ethnic or sexual.
I work with teenagers, through the ages to older adults.
I have worked in different organisations, including the NHS, Cruse Bereavement.
A session is 50 minutes and the cost is £50.
I have worked in many different sectors, starting out as an actress and singer, and subsidising fallow periods with secretarial work, which later led to working in the medical industry as a PA.
I lived in Australia for some years and have two sons, now in their 20s.
